Certification

The certification process of equipment for use in potentially explosive environments can be complex, confusing, expensive and time-consuming.

Moreover, the time required for a typical approval process can vary depending on the complexity of the project, scope of documentation, the standards involved etc. That´s why we focus on customer communication and collaboration to make sure our customers can go through the certification process successfully.

Step 1.  Knowing your market
An important  initial step is knowing to what markets that you want to sell your product(s) including the required Ex codes.

Step 2. The design phase
In the early stages of designing your product, it is key to define the protection concept and certification parameters that the product should be certified to and to really understand the requirements of the applicable standards. In this step, time can be saved and possible mistakes avoided. To help customers through this part of the process, Presafe can assist with pre-evaluation. To read more, please click here.

Step 3.  Compile relevant product information.
Typical information required for a testing and certification project:

  • Drawings, based on general requirement as provided in IECEx OD-017
  • Material datasheets
  • Marking
  • Instruction manual
  • Product test sample(s)
  • Quality Assessment Notification (QAN) and/or Quality Assessment Report (QAR)
  • Test report and certificates for certified components (if applicable)

Step 4.  Application and Quotation
Once the manufacturer is confident that the product design will meet the specified EN/IEC Ex standards, the application for certification can be made.

Step 5. Document control and Testing
Document review can be a time consuming part of the process. We at Presafe emphasize the importance of a close communication and cooperation between our project managers and test engineers and the manufacturer´s representatives, to save time and costs.

Step 6 The final stage.
Certificate can be issued.
